Back to Basics: Five Simple Health Resolutions for 2015
It's a new year, and with that comes new beginnings. Everyone loves to make (and break) resolutions, but a lot of them end up being too complicated or just plain unrealistic. With that, we're going back to basics. Here is our list of simple, easy-to-keep resolutions that will keep you healthy and feelin' good well into 2015.
Drink More Water - What a fundamental part of our health, and yet it's so easy to forget to drink enough water throughout the day. The "8x8 rule" is a good measure for daily intake (eight glasses, each one eight ounces), but some experts claim even that isn't enough, and that we should constantly sip throughout the day.
If you want an extra boost of hydration, come by our shop for an ultra-hydrating alkaline water. Through a process called ionization, alkaline water has a much higher pH level than than tap water. Think of it like water from millions of years ago before humans came along, in its pure, natural state. Your body absorbs it more easily, making it much more hydrating than tap water, and it acts as an antioxidant, neutralizing harmful free radicals in your body.
Exercise - probably the most typical resolution, and the first one to get dropped. But I love what Prevention says about incorporating it into your daily routine, even at work. Some simple ways to do that are taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or jogging to the mailbox rather than driving by it in your car. Experts tell us we need 30-45 minutes of daily exercise to stay healthy and lookin' good, but a lot of us are so busy that we wouldn't dream of having that much free time in a day. Check out this great article on breaking that up into ten-minute blocks, and how doing so might give you faster results.
Get Outside - It's good for you! Especially when the sun is out, be sure to spend some time out of doors this year. You'll take in plenty of revitalizing vitamin-D that you just can't get any other way. If you're in our area, Outdoor Chattanooga has some great info on over 150 day hikes within fifteen minutes of downtown. A walk in the woods is good for both the body and the soul, and with just one or two a week you'll start to feel more in tune with yourself and nature.
Fruits and Veggies - This one's a no-brainer, and I'm sure we don't need to get scientific to explain the benefits of fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables in your diet. Here is a great instance of there being no such thing as too much of a good thing, and like my mom always said, try to eat all the colors of the rainbow, because there's something in that carrot or that blueberry or that spinach that makes it orange or blue or green, and whatever that thing is, it's good for you.

If you really want to revamp your meals this year, incorporate organic ingredients into your cooking whenever possible. The cost of organic food can add up quickly, so if you want to go organic without breaking the bank, just start with some staple ingredients.
