Festival Detox 101

Tis the season for the FESTIVAL!

There's nothing a Green Girl loves more than to dance and celebrate self-expression, and a festival is the perfect place to do that! Whether it's for music, art, food, or anything worth celebrating, festivals are for letting loose and having fun. That being said, it's sometimes hard to make the best health decisions during a festival, but that's okay! If you've found yourself falling off the wellness bandwagon this season, we've got the perfect detox for you! Let's get into it:

Sleep - try to get back into a good sleep routine by going to bed and waking up at consistent times. A few great ways to help calm your inner rockstar before bedtime are a hot bath, some chamomile tea, or try this yoga pose to prep your body for deep sleep.

Hydrate - after a weekend of dancing and rocking your face off in the hot sun, don't forget to rehydrate! A Green Girl amount for water consumption per day is half of your body weight in ounces. Be sure to avoid diuretics like coffee and soda. If you want to make your water a little more interesting, try adding some fresh lemon or cucumber slices. A little tip from the South - everything tastes better out of a mason jar.

Find your Center - get your mind, body, and soul centered by practicing yoga, meditating, or whatever calms your spirit after an intense weekend. If you're interested in learning more about Chopra Mediation, follow this link.

Nourish - fresh foods and festivals don't normally go hand-in-hand, but that's fine! You had a great weekend full of good times, and now it's time to get some clean foods back into your diet. Leafy greens and plant-based proteins like nuts, legumes, and seeds are all essential. Ever tried a juice cleanse? Completing a cleanse provides a way to absorb all of your daily nutrients with raw, organic, unpasteurized juice for one day, three days, or even more. It's the ultimate reboot for your body, mind, and soul. Just call Southern Sqweeze at 423-805-4440 to schedule your cleanse, or follow this link to learn more.

Detox - A few easy ways to detox every day are to start your day with eight ounces of hot water and fresh lemon, taking a shot of apple cider vinegar, dry brushing before your shower, and drinking a green juice or smoothie for breakfast. Here's a great green smoothie recipe to start your day:

  • 8 oz almond milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 6 cups spinach
  • 1 tbsp raw peanut butter (not roasted or salted!)
  • Optional: raw vegetable protein powder, a handful of chia seeds, 1 tsp maca powder

Move! - After a long, zapping weekend, exercising might be the last thing on your radar, but at least 35 minutes of movement a day will help you detox, re-energize, and sweat your way back to feeling awesome!

Here in Tennessee, we know how to do festivals. There really is nothing like dancing barefoot in a field, in the middle of the day, surrounded by good music and good people. If you've never done it, do it. But when you're done, make sure you follow the steps we've listed above to get back on track!
